When I create art, be it a sculpture,
painting, photograph, digital paint,
graphic design, illustration, a mixed
media piece, jewelry, or the design of
a space, it is provoked by the subject
I observe or a vision inspired by my
imagination. My artwork represents
these observations and visions.
Each of the pieces is authentically
unique and, at the same time,
together, they are connected and
have the mission of provoking
reflection through the representation
of beauty in our earthly and sublime
What follows are some of my
time in painting.
“Seeing the Light”
“Through time artists have been intrigued by light, its reflective quality, the illuminessence of light, and have tried to capture the light in their work.”
Marcos Carvajal Statement
I was fascinated by the name of the call for entries for the July 2011 exhibit “Seeing the Light”, sponsored by the Marblehead Art Association.
In exploring possible images to create the painting I took a look at some of my most recent work and found a couple of painting reflecting the luminousness of light in nature, without thinking about the luminousness of light when I did them. After spending some time reflecting, I wanted to create a painting to get me inspired in how I understand light. Having lots of days of full sun and the beginning of a bright summer light was ideal for my painting.
Through the process of looking at natural light for many days, and working from the center of the canvas out, inspired me to paint, not only one light, but also many lights combined as a source of truth in light.
